Variations of the British Navy flag, also identified as the White Ensign or the St. George’s Ensign, have been recognized as far back as the 16^th century.  The current design features a St. George’s cross on a white ensign, with the Union Jack in the top left canton.  This has been the official form of the flag since 1801.  This flag is primarily flown on Royal Navy Ships as well as at land bases.
