U N Member Flag Adopted 1975 Flag Proportion: 2:3 Capital: Yaounde' Language: French, English Currency: Franc Continent: Central Africa The current flag of Cameroon was officially adopted in May of 1975.  This tri-band flag, modeled after the French tricolor, consists of three vertical bands in the pan-African colors, green, red and yellow. Centered on the flag is a single gold five pointed star representing unity.  The color red is also considered a symbol of unity as well as sovereignty.  Green represents the lush vegetation in the south and hope for a prosperous future.  Yellow stands for the sun, and vast savannahs of the north.
