The current flag of Gambia was officially introduced in
1965. The design features three horizontal bands, separated by a thin white
fimbriation. The top band is red, and represents the sun and vast
savannahs. The bottom green stripe stands for the forests and fertile lands
of the country. Blue, the middle band, symbolizes the river Gambia that
flows from the forest to the savannah. The smaller white stripes stand for
peace and unity.
