The most recent
legislation regarding the flag of Japan was in 1999, however
both the design and use of the current flag date back to at
least the 14th century. Known as the Hinomaru,
meaning “sun disc,” the flag of Japan features a red disc
centered on a white flag. This is a reflection of Japan’s
identity as “land of the rising sun.” The red disc is a direct
symbol of the sun, although the color is also considered a
symbol of passion, sincerity and warmth, as well. White can
also be interpreted to represent purity, honesty and integrity. |
