The current flag of
Liberia was officially adopted in August of 1847. The flag
features eleven horizontal stripes alternating red and white
with a white star centered on a blue square in the canton.
According to the flag laws of the nation, the blue field is
specifically navy blue and stands for ‘liberty, justice and
fidelity.’ The white in flag is interpreted as a color of the
‘highest brilliance’ and is a symbol of cleanliness and purity.
The shade of red used is identified as ‘ruby red’ and represents
‘steadfastness, valor and fervor.’ The eleven stripes of the
flag stand for the eleven signatories of the Liberian
declaration of independence. |
