Vermont Flag History !
The design of the Vermont state flag is derived from a painting made for the state coat of arms. It is based on the state seal that was adopted in 1779. Before it became the state flag, the present flag was carried by Vermont soldiers in the Civil War and later wars. The Pine Tree is a typical symbol in New England. The cows and wheat sheaves represent dairy and agriculture industries. The Green Mountains are in the distance.
