| 6th State
Massachusetts is named after a tribe of Native Americans, the Massachusett, from
an area near Boston. The white star represents Massachusetts as one of the
original thirteen states. There is a picture of a Native American in a stance of
peace. Above the shield is a sword which represents the beginning of the state
motto.
