Rhode Island | 13th State
Rhode Island is one of the original 13 states. Also known as "Little Rhody",
it is the smallest in size with the longest official name "The State of
Rhode Island and Providence Plantations." The anchor has been recognized as
a symbol of hope for centuries and has been used on Rhode Islands flags since
the Colonial days. The thirteen stars represent the thirteen states at the time.
White and blue flags were carried by Rhode Island soldiers beginning in
Revolutionary war times.
