The red diagonal cross was inspired by the Battle flag of the
Confederate States of America, to which Florida belonged. The
Indian women scattering flowers represents the states first inhabitants,
the Seminoles. The seal also represents the many characteristics
of the state, the land of sunshine, flowers, palm trees, river
and lakes. The state motto - In God We Trust - is prominent on
the flag. |
