| The seal on this flag is very
similar to the great seal of the United States. It shows a bald
eagle holding an olive branch in its right claw and arrows in
its left claw. The olive branch stands for peace and the arrows
stand for the power to make war if necessary. In its beak is a
ribbon with "E Pluribus Unum" on it, meaning "One nation made
up of many states". Above its head are thirteen stars for the
original thirteen states and sun rays representing the rising
of a new nation, America. On the eagle's breast is a shield with
the corresponding thirteen stripes. The state name appears on
a red scroll below the eagle. |
