Ohio Flag History !
The Ohio State flag is the only state flag in the shape of a burgee. It was designed by John Eisenmann, an architect and engineer. The flag is similar to the Cavalry Guidon carried during the Civil War. The red, white and blue colors are from the American flag. There are seventeen stars to indicate that it was the seventeenth state to join the union. The large O suggests the first letter in Ohio. The red disc in the center of the O is a suggestion of the Large Buckeye seed from the state tree. These seeds were named by the Native Americans because they thought they looked like the eyes of the white-tailed buck deer. Ohio is known as the Buckeye state.
